It's that time again.

Launching my PY26 Thursday afternoon.

How many others are in, or soon to be in for the 2017 season?

Not sure what my status will be for 2017. Docks are still under water at the yacht club. We have a meeting on Thursday to discuss options...

Serenity won't be going in for at least a week. A few days of northerly wind has pushed pack ice into the bay. Lewisporte harbour is still open, but you can't get very far beyond it. Good for tourism, however, with all the icebergs among it.

Sorry to hear your seasons are being delayed.  Picked up the boat today and delivered to the yacht club this evening.

Kevin, was looking at lake predictions from USACE a couple days ago and the outlook was looking a little better for you.  Hope they are right and the levels will begin to drop for you.  We are looking at another 3" by next month.  New predictions should be out tomorrow.

Hope to hear news of some more launches!

Looks like the Army Corp projection is now 0" change by June 19th. However, a lot of damage is already done. Our parking lot is under 6-10" of water. The ground will probably be too soft to bring in the crane and launch boats. We also have a lot of repair work to do on the club, seawall and docks. We aren't sure what condition the docks will be in once they emerge from underwater. Our seawall has been washed away and the club still has water underneath it.

Hoping to at least get some sailing in this year on the Paceship. Otherwise it is projects and sailing the Hunter 14 at the camp.

Sorry to hear your club is having such a rough go at it this year.  Wish you and your members all the best in getting the club back in shape.

Looks like they are having problems updating all of their predictions on the website.  There should have been a new forecast last Monday.  Actually, if you click on the link for a printer friendly version you will get the most up to date info.  It is only updated weekly, but at least it will be this weeks predictions and not last weeks.

Here is the direct link to the weekly report in PDF form.

Looks like it will be a late start to the season for a few of us. Ice has started making its way into our harbour now, and the bay is blocked pretty solid beyond it. I'm afraid that if much of it makes it to the bottom of the harbour, when the wind turns around it will fill the marina.

Peter, it looks as if you still have a few patches of snow on the ground as well. I'm pretty hearty, but I have to say, it still looks a little cold.

We will be staying on the boat tonight. Temps are only supposed to get down into the mid 50s over night. So not so bad. Looking to get out tomorrow and get a sail in. Probably will end up being on someone else's boat though.

Hope the spring winds pick up for you and blow the ice out.

The snow has been pretty much gone for a couple weeks, except in well shaded, wooded areas. We had a couple of late season storms that dumped quite a bit on us, otherwise, it would have been all gone in April.

The arctic ice drifting into the bay is the problem now. As I feared, the harbour is now filled. When the wind turns around southerly, quite a bit will probably get into the marina, and perhaps do some damage to the boats and docks.

The northerly wind blowing off the ocean, and this ice, is also a chilly one. Temperatures have been on the cool side for a while, with days near 20C (68F) being rare so far. Most days lately are averaging around 10C (50F), and night temperatures nearing freezing. 2017 has not given us a pleasant spring. June is normally very wet with lots of rain, so we have that to look forward to yet. We certainly don't live in Newfoundland for the weather.

Nothing done to Serenity yet, except the removal of the winter cover. Suppose I'll have to get some projects out of the way soon, so it can be splashed as soon as the ice clears out.

Sails are finally rigged. Ready for a day to get out on the lake now.

Where's the rest of the fleet? Only hearing bad news from Peter and Kevin. Starting to feel bad being the only one able to put in.
